Adult Bible Hour Classes Begin January 10, 2010
8:00 a.m. Class
General Elective - Book of Judges
Teacher: Dennis Toll - Room 118
We will complete an in-depth look at the book of Judges, including its literary structure and message. Then we will continue the same format for the books of Ruth and I Samuel. We will seek to understand how these books advance the Old Testament story of the Lord’s dealings with His people and how that message affects our walk with God today.
9:20 a.m. Classes
Berean Class - Philippians
Teacher: Bill Bockus - Room 204
This class caters primarily to the seniors. The format involves telling others about important happenings in our lives, sharing prayer requests, an "ice breaker" question, and discussion related to the Bible. Topics will revolve around the book of Philippians as it illuminates the Apostle Paul’s character and his relationship to the believers in Philippi.
Women’s Elective - Lessons from Deuteronomy, Acts, & Kings
Teacher: Karen Lynch - Room 203
The Women’s B.H. Class will be doing a topical study this semester. We welcome women of all ages. From passages in Deuteronomy we will focus on "Putting Passions in Your Relationship with God." Through this study of Moses’ leading of the Israelites, we will learn about struggling with sin, being diligently obedient and remembering that the Lord is God. "Let’s Do Church Right" focuses on texts in Acts about how the church is to operate in unity as it carries out ministry, evangelism, and missions. The last study is taken from 1 & 2 Kings and the theme is "Looking Up When Life Gets You Down."
General Elective - Lessons from Crown Financial
Teachers: Stan Watt, Greg Webb, Corwin Seamans - Room 301
Managing Our Finances God’s Way - See what the Scriptures teach about money and possessions. A biblical perspective of earning, spending, saving, investing, giving, and debt.
Men’s Elective - Continuing in Psalms
Teacher: Bob Burton - Annex #1
This class is a "prepare and share" Bible study of Psalms. We usually discuss one psalm each week. As participants prepare, they have the opportunity to practice and experience Bible study processes such as title, outline, cross references, definitions, focus thought, web-based Bible study aids, and personal application. Participants are welcome to attend and discuss with or without preparation.
General Elective - TULIP:
The Pursuit of God’s Glory in Salvation
Teacher: Mickey Zimmerman - Room 101
Calvinism. Doctrines of Grace. Reformed Theology. Whatever it’s called, it always seems to be discussed in Christian circles. John Piper will provide biblical explanations to tough questions concerning our salvation: Does man have free will? If God is sovereign, why evangelize? Are works required for salvation? Please join us as we discuss these and many other questions.
Internationals - God Is Love
Teachers: Leon Brown, Steve Graber - Room 115
We will focus on the subject of love and how that relates to having a relationship with God and how that impacts our relationships with our spouse, parents, children, workplace, and friends. We will also discuss restoring damaged relationships and building healthy ones.
Collegiate Class - Transitions
Teachers: Greg Bailey, David Allen, Vaughn Kohler - Room 118
College students are at a unique time in life: no longer fully dependent on their parents (like high school) and not quite totally independent (like after graduation). The college years are wonderful years, but often a time of restless change and transition. This class will focus on various topics and will address them from a biblical perspective. Some of the topics will include "how to discern my vocation/calling in life," "the nature of love/guidelines for pursuing a spouse," and "godly habits for success."
General Elective - Missions Matters!
Teachers: Charles Bascom, Rich Llewelyn - Room 119
A weekly forum that will give special attention to the biblical basis of missions. This class gives an opportunity for people to present specific mission initiatives to which Grace is relating, and for those attending to respond through questions, discussion, and prayer.
11:00 a.m. Classes
General Elective - Apologetics
Teachers: Eric Carter, Nathan Humes, Jimmy Goheen - Room 119
Compelling defenses of major Christian teachings for anyone looking for answers to questions of faith and reason.
